Although many drainage issues can be resolved without drain excavation, there are some cases in which it is the only option to ensure the problem is fixed and doesn’t keep occurring. To help you understand when drain excavation may be required, we have rounded up some things to look out for…
Cracks or sinkholes
Cracks or sinkholes anywhere on your property may be a sign that your drainage network may be experiencing problems. This is often a sign of drain damage which is showing in the ground above it. Cracks and sinkholes in relation to drainage can be quite rare however.
Blocked drains
Blocked drains are extremely common due to household use and so, slow draining water within your property is a sign that a blockage may be building up. Blocked drains can be fixed before they cause a larger issue by using a drain unblocker and limiting the waste being poured into the system.
Growths including moss, mushrooms or foliage
Growths are common above an area where there may be a damaged or leaking pipe. The leaking sewage can fertilise the ground which then causes grass or moss to grow in the area. This is a sign there will be a requirement for a pipe repair.
Ongoing issues with drainage
If you have been experiencing ongoing issues within your drainage network, there may be a requirement for investigative work such as a CCTV drainage survey. We recommend undergoing a drainage survey as part of diagnosing an issue, from the images and video taken a plan can be created to resolve the problem, which may involve excavation.
Excavation is often a last resort and so, our professional drainage team will try a range of other options before we decide to excavate the area due to the invasiveness and costs associated with drain excavation.
