hazardous waste removal paperwork

Hazardous waste removal can be delayed by something as simple as an unclear description or missing site detail. The waste may be ready to go, but the paperwork still has to stand up to scrutiny.

Describe the waste properly

A good waste description should say what the material is, where it came from, its physical form and what it is likely to contain. “Dirty water” or “sludge” may not be enough if the waste has oil, chemicals, metals or process residues in it.

For hazardous waste, the classification, quantity, container type and relevant hazard information all matter. Safety data sheets, process records and previous collection notes can help build a more accurate description.

Check the movement details

The carrier, vehicle, collection address, waste producer and destination must all line up with the actual job. If the collection is from a customer site, a construction project or a facility managed by another company, confirm who is responsible for signing and supervising the movement.

Do this before collection day. Last-minute uncertainty can stop a load leaving site, especially where the carrier cannot verify the waste or the paperwork is incomplete.

Make duty of care visible

Commercial sites are expected to take reasonable steps to make sure waste is handled correctly. That includes using authorised carriers, keeping records and giving enough information for the waste to be moved and treated safely.

Mantank supports hazardous waste disposal and removal work where paperwork, site access and waste handling need to be coordinated properly.

If you need hazardous waste removed and want the paperwork checked before collection, contact Mantank to discuss the material and site arrangements.

FAQ

Who is responsible for hazardous waste paperwork?

Responsibility is shared across the producer, holder, carrier and consignee at different stages. The site should make sure its own information is complete and accurate.

Can hazardous waste be removed without a consignment note?

For business hazardous waste movements in England, a consignment note is generally required before the waste is moved.
