The same patch of standing water outside a warehouse can prompt several callouts without anyone establishing why it keeps returning. CCTV drain surveys help site managers investigate the condition of accessible pipework and make better decisions about the next step.
Late summer is a practical time to review unresolved drainage problems. If inspection identifies work that needs doing, there is an opportunity to arrange it before wet weather puts those areas under greater pressure.
Start with the decision you need to make. You might want to understand a repeated blockage, check a section after cleaning or assess drainage before resurfacing a yard. A focused brief helps the survey team identify the relevant runs and the information you need back.
Include previous reports, available drawings and a short account of the problem. Note whether water appears during rainfall or normal operations. If records are incomplete, say so. An old drainage plan is useful background, but it should not be treated as proof that every connection is still where the drawing shows it.
A commercial drain inspection can reveal visible defects such as fractures, displaced joints, roots and obstructions within the surveyed pipework. Mantank’s commercial CCTV drain surveys provide video inspection and condition reporting, with mapping requirements available for discussion.
There are limits. Deposits, standing water or an obstruction can prevent a clear view or stop the camera progressing. Ask the report to identify any section that could not be inspected and explain what would be needed to complete it.
Camera footage alone does not establish whether a whole drainage network has enough capacity for every rainfall event. Where the question concerns system performance or an uncertain connection, discuss whether broader drainage investigation is required.
Check which areas need to be available and coordinate the visit with deliveries, parking and production. Tell the contractor about restricted zones and site induction requirements. If cleaning may be needed to expose the pipe surface, agree how that will be authorised.
Someone familiar with the site should be available to explain the history and help identify locations. That can be particularly useful on premises that have expanded over time or changed occupants.
Review the findings against operational consequences. A defect beneath the only goods entrance may need a different response from one in a rarely used corner of the site. Ask which recommendations concern immediate restrictions, which require planned work and which can be monitored.
Keep the footage and report with the asset records, and assign responsibility for the agreed actions. The value of the survey comes from using the evidence to make a decision.
